Absence from School
In the drive to raise standards, the Governors consider attendance to be one of the most important issues. We believe that regular attendance is necessary for the wellbeing of both the individual child and the school as a whole. Irregular attendance causes disruption to a child’s education and is not conducive to the smooth running of the school. The school’s policy on attendance aims to promote not only academic standards but also the essential skills of self-discipline as a preparation for the future.
If a child is absent from school, please let us know the reason as soon as possible by writing in or telephoning the Secretary, by 10.00 am on the first day of absence.
If your child is late (after the closure of registers, usually 9.05am) they should report to the Secretary in the office, who will ensure the late book is completed and the child’s lunchtime arrangements are recorded. The Secretary will then ensure that the child enters the classroom without disturbing lessons. Unexplained absences are recorded and passed onto the Education Welfare Officer, who also monitors lateness.
There is no automatic entitlement to leave of absence but the Headteacher may authorise an absence for exceptional circumstances.
The school follows the agreed Penryn Partnership attendance policy (see below).

Please give us advance notice of medical appointments so that your child is ready to be collected from the office. School medical checks are made at various times during a child’s primary school life. Parents are notified in advance and requested to be present at the examination.
If a child has a medical problem, it is advisable and very helpful if parents inform the Headteacher so that correct supervision can be made. Please let us know if your child has contracted an infectious illness.
